The New York Landmarks Conservancy is a private organization that provides technical and financial assistance to the many individuals and organizations who, as owners of landmarked properties, are the custodians of New York City's architectural heritage. In an effort to improve outreach to owners in need of financial assistance, the Conservancy selected Urbanomics (along with planning firm Buckhurst Fish Jacquemart) to prepare an inventory and analysis of landmarked structures owned and occupied by not-for-profit organizations.

Apollo Theater, Harlem

Urbanomics compiled a comprehensive database using New York City real property tax assessment records as a source of information about ownership, building value, location and building type. Additional information was compiled from a wide range of sources including IRS filings, City Planning Department databases, and federal, state and local landmarks listings. A field survey was conducted and all properties were photographed. Properties were mapped using ArcView Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. Field surveys, government databases, photographs and maps were consolidated in a computer database using Microsoft Access software. The database reporting function was used to produce Building Profile sheets which provided a convenient summary of all relevant information for each property.

A summary report was also produced which presented an analysis of properties by type, historic district location, and value. The report was extensively illustrated with thematic maps and charts, which provided a vivid graphic representation of the assembled data.
